Dr Kim Thompson

Kim started her life in Western Australia, obtaining her primary medical degree at the University of Western Australia. After taking time to work and travel, she chose to move to Melbourne and completed her specialist training through the Mercy Hospital for Women. As part of her training, she moved to the United Kingdom gaining both obstetric and gynaecological experience. On returning to Melbourne, she recommenced working at the Mercy Hospital for Women.

After her family was complete, she started her private practice and over the years this has expanded to a supportive group practice. Kim continues to work at the Mercy as a Gynaecologist, and practices both Obstetrics and Gynaecology privately. She enjoys the support of a group practice at Empower Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the collegiality of the public hospital system, which allows her to help develop and train the next generation of specialists.

Kim enjoys the private practice, as it allows her to develop a relationship with her patients. She has a direct but caring approach, and believes that enabling women to make informed choices of their care, and supporting them to do so, is important. She has an interest in both obstetrics and gynaecology, as both of these fields are part of women’s health and life journeys.

With family being important to her, most of her weekends are spent on the sidelines of sporting fields cheering them on. Kim likes to swim, cook and eat, and sometimes even finds time to read a book and do a crossword.
